The
paper demonstrates and characterizes the cartographic aspects (use of map representation
means above all) of selected maps compiled by the CORINE land cover data
application (derived by interpretation of the Landsat images) in some European
countries and at the Institute of Geography, Slovak Academy of Sciences in Bratislava. Qualitative
colour areas applied in order to discern land cover classes definitely prevail
on maps of Luxembourg, Spain-Catalonia, Spain-eastern coast, Ireland, Belgium,
Poland and France. The CORINE land cover maps processed at the Institute of Geography,
Slovak Academy of Sciences in Bratislava
in turn, contain graphic and associative patterns. Newly produced data layers
on the landscape under the Global Monitoring for Environment and Security
Programme are also described. Alternatives of the future development of
thematic map creation on base of CLC and GSELand data are characterised.
